CAPTAIN'S
FISHING REPORT
2005
SEASON
12-01-05 As is always the case, I am sorry to report that the 2005 fishing
season is over for the Deborah Ann IV. On behalf of the crew and myself I
would like to thank everyone that fished and rode with us this season and
wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Remember we do offer trip gift
certificates! 2006 season opens on Saturday, 04-01-06 and it is never to
early to book a trip. 10-30-05 Mainly due to bad weather October's trips have
been few and far between. Although, when we have gotten out most have been
productive. The most noteworthy outing was last Friday's Blazer Pub outing
headed up by Bobby Blueshirt, Don Hopko and the boys. The team of 5 boated
over 40 blues and 20 + stripers. All the bass unfortunately were of the
schoolie size 22" to 26" and had to be released. Plenty of action
none the less. First fish honors went to Billy Blacktop, however the heaviest
fish prize was still under protest by the Mad Bomber as of this writing.
There is just a couple of weeks left in the 2005 sailing season. So, if you
would like to wet a line for the last time before the long winter give us a
call,203 792-2277. 09-25-05 Bluefish action continues to be HOT on the
jigging front. Best trip of the week was the Andy Braver party of 5. The
group landed 28 fish in less then 4 hours not counting the numerous fish that
spit the jigs as usual, when they hit the surface. A few stripers are
starting to mix in the catch. Hopefully, the Fall migration run will be as
productive as the Spring. Still plenty of good fishing time left before the
long Winter arrives. Give us a call and book a date. 09-03-05 Over the last couple
of weeks the bluefish have been feeding on top under the birds, outside of
Greenwich and Flatneck making for some fun with light tackle. They also don't
hang around long, but while they are there, lots of fun is had by all. On the
fluke front, there are still some nice fish around but numbers have gone
down.08-21-05 Bluefish and fluke continue to be the best bet for success.
Blues have been chasing bait all over the Sound from Stamford to New
Rochelle. Once you find them, you catch and the fish are getting larger.
Congratulations to Joan Vohra, our latest winner of the world famous,
"Bring your Your Lunch, Catch your dinner" Deborah Ann IV tee shirt
for a 4.3 pound fluke caught at Flatneck,on Friday's twilight trip. Still
some prime weekend dates available, so give us a call. 08-01-05 Bluefishing
continued to be great last week. On Tuesday, the Byington family from Texas
jigged up 18 blues on a half day outing. The Bryson party had 33 blues on
Sunday. On the fluke front, congratulations go out to Christine Brower our
lastest winner of the world famous Deborah Ann IV tee shirt with a 3.3
pounder. Still on the small side, I don't think that weight will hold up too
long. Give us a call, summer will be out of here before we know it. 07-25-05
Bluefishing was HOT last week. Plenty of fish caught in mid Sound in the 3 to
8 pound range. When you find them you catch well. The Schuster party had 48
fish on Friday's trip and Vera Sung's party boated 52 on a half day outing on
Sunday. Great job by Vera, her father and the rest of the family! Fluke
catches have improved in Oyster Bay and also on our side of the pond off of
Flatneck in Greenwich. 07-10-05 Bluefish are schooling up. We are now jigging
fish up to 8 pounds. Come out and have some fun with these fighters.06-22-05
Striper action was exciting this week with some nice size fish coming in over
the rail on a recent twilight trip. Kevin Kerrigan of the Gentle Sportsman
took the honors with a nice 40" bass weighing in at 23.5 pounds. Don
Hokpo from Windings Inc. gets honorable mention for a nice 11.9 pounder. On
the fluke front, things seemed to slow down a bit, maybe due to the drop in
water temp the last few days. Blues have arrived, but not yet in full force,
should though any day now. There is plenty of bait around. 06-12-05 Fluke
fishing continues to improve. Fish in the 3 pound range around the Oyster Bay
area. Bass and blues are starting to show at our favorite spots in 40 to 50
feet of water in mid Sound. Water temp is up to 70 degrees, summer is finally
here. 06-06-05 Fluke fishing continues to improve as the water temp rises, up
to 64 degrees this week. Reports of bluefish are starting to be heard on the
radio, but we haven't started chasing them as of yet. Stripers as usual, are
around if you put the time in. THE DEBORAH ANN IV WILL START SAILING SPECIAL
TWILIGHT FISHING OPEN BOAT TRIPS FROM 4:30 PM TO 8:30 PM EVERY FRIDAY
EVENING, STARTING FRIDAY JUNE 17TH. FARE IS $45 PER HEAD AND RESERVATIONS ARE
RECOMMENDED. CALL 203 792-2277 AND BOOK A SPOT OR 2 ON THE RAIL. 05-29-05
Fluke have arrived in Sand City. Not a blitz, but 2 out of 3 are keepers.
This years reg is 17 1/2", 5 in NY, 6 in CT. At least they agreed on the
size. There were reports of a few blues on the radio and some stripers to the
West. Water has begun to warm up, (hit 60 at Sand City) so fishing should
improve as well. Come on down. The Deborah Ann IV will begin special Friday
evening open boat trips the middle of June. Reservations will be recommended,
call 203 792-2277 and book your spot.05-19-05 It has been a while since our
last update due in part to a computer upgrade. However, unfortunately, there
wasn't a lot to write home about on the flounder front. But, that is behind
us and the stripers and fluke have arrived to save the day. The Deborah Ann
IV will be making our first fluke trip on Saturday and I will keep you
posted. We have boated some small bass, so keepers should be in the mix very
shortly. Weekend dates are starting to fill up but there are still a lot of
prime dates available. 04-24-05 Good news, bad news story. The good news is
we are fishing again and it feels great to be back out on the Sound. The bad
news is we have only made a couple of trips for flounder and the results were
very disappointing to say the least. Only a few fish caught. That seems to be
the case all around the fleet. Sad but true, the flounder fishery continues
to be a problem. All is not lost, the Deborah Ann IV be targeting blackfish
up until the fluke show up in just a couple of weeks. Just a reminder the boat
will begin sailing open boat twilight trips shortly on Friday evenings from
4:30 PM until 8:30 PM. Call and reserve a spot. Good way to get out for a few
hours without having to take the day off or tie up the weekend. 04-06-05 Warm
weather is finally here! The Deborah Ann IV is back at our homeport in
Stamford all shined up and ready to go. Didn't get out last weekend due to
the rain and wind. However, things are looking up and we hope to have a
fishing report by this time next week. Give us a call. Time to wet some
lines.03-05-05 Believe it or not we are now less then a month away from
opening day. The Deborah Ann IV opens the season on Sat April 2, 2005.
Looking forward to wetting a line or 2, it has been a long winter. New for
2005 we will be sailing open boat twilight trips on Friday evenings starting
in mid June. Keep in touch for exact starting date if you are in to open boat
fishing. Of course our charter service will continue as usual. Our Tee shirt
contest was a lot of fun last year so we will be running it again in 2005.
Hope to see you all soon. 02-21-05 We are a little over a month away from
opening day. Time to start getting our fishing gear in order for what
hopefully will be another super season. I am suffering from cabin fever and
can't wait to get back out on the Sound. As soon as the weather gets a little
warmer people start to think about fishing and dates start to fill up. So if
you are thinking of riding with us this season please plan ahead and call
early. SPRING is on the way, I hope. Come fish with us aboard the Deborah Ann
IV. A sport fishing boat set up for your fishing pleasure and comfort. Our
experienced Captain and crew are there to help you and your party, have the
most productive and fun day possible. Full day, half day, or twilight fishing
trips are available. We also offer twilight or daytime cruises for those who
like to spend time on the water but prefer not to fish. Departure and return
times can be adjusted to suit your needs. So call us today for more details.
Give us a call or E-mail.
